On most Saturdays we head over to Dom’s place to play some Dungeons and Dragons (v3.5 by the way). Dom is running our campaign and doing a really fantastic job (though he should make me say O.O.C. every time I open my mouth).
Our party consists of:
Albert the Gnome Illusionist
Myself the Elf Swashbuckler
Cliff the Human Rogue
Ian the Hafling Scout
Matt the Raptoran Ranger
I think we were suppose to be escorting the new king to school yesterday. I assume we did cause then we had to go kick the butts of the guys that blockaded themselves in the school with the librarian elf hostage and barrels of spears. Some illusions occurred, as well as some stabbing, a lot of missing, and a lot of beef jerky eating. Then we went and beat up some people on a boat with fish on spears.
Here are some better quotes from the night (courtesy of Albert):
Me:”There’s a guy bleeding in the pantry! That’s SO unsanitary!”
Matt:”… The Elf, in the library, with the candlestick, and Professor Plum.”
Dom:”What do you need, besides a barrel of spears?! TWO barrels of spears!”
Cliff:”*Rolls 20* I have TOTALLY faked this guy out. *Rolls 5* I have TOTALLY missed!”
Dom:”Why are you always eating?! Me:I have a high metabolism! We’re at threat level orange! Dom:You’re at threat level JERKY, apparently!”
Dom:”Meanwhile, Matt… excuse me, let me call you by your proper name: RA, GOD OF THE SUN!”
Matt:”I would like to know about the birds, because I’m big and full of feathers.”
Dom:”It’s named like… “The Momma’s Boy,” I dunno. Me: Spelled “B-U-O-Y”?”
And now some pictures, because your brain doesn’t hurt enough.

It’s been so long since I played a good RPG. I had such high hopes for Shining Tears and Radiata Stories, neither was able to satiate my need for a beautiful, turn-based RPG; mainly because I couldn’t handle their cut scenes and load screens. If I wanted to spend that much time not playing a game, well….I’d play many of the Xenosaga games I own. Alas, the last game I was able to sink my teeth into was Viva Pinata and that game just brings out the OCD in me.
*sigh*
Wait…is that light at the end of the tunnel? No, no it’s better! It’s Blue Dragon from the Microsoft Game Studios and the acclaimed Akira Toriyama! I’ve only played the game for a little over 2 hours now and I’m very pleased. The combat style and HUD are easily navigated, the voice acting is great, and is that an enemy called a Poo Monster? Awesome, just awesome. You’re first real boss battle features some awesomely inspiring buttrock that will leave you giggling (from wondering what is actaully being said. Did they just say “break your hand on silly string”?) and humming the tune for hours. The game has a feature that will test your will to just get stuff done or screw around. Did you slice every bush in Zelda? Did you hump every wall in Wolfenstein 3-D to find hidden doors? Well then Blue Dragon wants you to play it. You can kick, push, open every rock and tree. If you’re a player like me, you’ll just do that for hours.
Combat is very satisfying with a good range of abilities from the get go…well not right away; but at least after you swallow the strange voice’s blue balls……
…you heard me.
The only down side of the game…..it’s 3 disks long. Maybe I was fated to quit my job just so I could have the time to play. The timing makes me wonder. Either way, Lisseromen and Dacquoise are just going to have to chill for awhile.
